Okay, I know this may sound like an odd question, but has anyone had any problems with Adobe Camera Raw and highlights? Every once in a while I get pictures where the highlights process out with these annoying pink and blue pixels all over the place and I can't seem to get them to go away no matter what I try in the Camera Raw plug in. Generally I'd say these things are supposed to come up from overblown highlights, but sometimes you need to leave them, the highlights I mean (as with something that's backlit or in the case of taking pictures of my Leopoldi where the spots are electric white to begin with). It's only every once in while. Most come out okay and it processes into PS just fine but then there's that one every great while that just won't give. I'll close and reprocess the image numerous times but the highlights still come out with those dang spots on them. I know it's not the picture itself and processing in another workflow program works as well (but so far I've liked Adobe Camera Raw the best).

Anybody know how to get rid of this (besides just cloning them out which works in some instances but not all)?

I'm using version 3.0

Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

Yes, I know the rest of the picture looks like poopie because I didn't bother cleaning it. It's just an example. The pictures that are the same exposure values before and after this one process just fine and come out of workflow with no annoying spots. I don't know what gives.

I installed version 3.3 and the problem seems to be alleviated...for now. At least the pictures it was giving me difficulty with are okay now. Hopefully it won't come back up.

I have had similar problems. I think it happens when my photo is underexposed on particularly dark areas. I thought maybe it was the camera's sensor developing a problem. I'm still not certain where the blame should go.

I know it's not a problem with the sensor because it's just not there until I process it through Camera Raw. Other workflow programs were fine and it only does it to certain pictures, even though others are pretty much the same and don't have any problems.

It seems to be working fine since I installed version 3.3.

Any reason why you're using the ACR to process? I usually only open the image from there and then do the edits on different layers once it's opened.

I don't edit in ACR. I only open the image through it. The image comes up in the plug in window and I bypass the auto settings and then open it into PS using the original camera settings. That's where the problem comes up, right out of ACR. But, I know the odd dots aren't on the original image, it's ACR that's doing it. But, like I said, it seems to be behaving after installing 3.3.

C'mon, give me more credit than that... :-)

LOL. Just wondering. :)

BTW, can you send me the camera RAW for one of the files that it's doing that with?

I appreciate the offer, but I don't share my raw files with anyone. They don't even get uploaded to the internet. I think it must have been a problem with that version of the plugin. Before I upgraded to it when I was using CS it was fine. Never had any problems. Then I got CS2 and that version and that's when it started to have problems. I guess I just never put two and two together and thought that it must be a problem with that version. Now after getting the latest version it's fine.

I'll send you over that bad plug in if you're interested in trying that out though...
