Very good, blair, I think you are definitely getting a hang of it. I hope you dont mind, I tried to play with it in PS, just going for a more "dramatic" presentation. Dont know if I succeded, just for fun.

Thanks paradise!
I would have done the same except I don't have a PC here in Atlanta.......all I have is my laptop and no photoshop. I'm making a new trip to the zoo on friday or monday and will be taking my tripod this time. hope to get some better pics this time.
Thanks again,
Blair

That a nice picture and a great pose. I love the big cats, from a safe distance of course. Finished up in PS about half way between yours and Eds would be great. I'd find 128 neutral on the shot to bring the true color out, A little sharpening and about + 5 contrast.

Yeah, I looked at mine again, and I think I oversaturated a bit :) I also cleaned up the water, it was full of white dots.

I hope Blair doesnt mind us playing with his shot. I found 128 neutral in the hair in the ear. clicked the gray dropper in curves nothing else, +5 contrast and a little sharpening. Didn't touch the dots in the water.

It's a nice shot, and I don't think it needs so much processing. I guess this is a Siberian tiger (or more probably tigress) from the length of its coat: if I'm right both of the 'corrected' versions seem way oversaturated to my eyes, because this race does have a paler coat. If the camera is set properly and the lighting is relatively normal, I wouldn't normally change the colour values very much at all - in this case, I might reduce the saturation of the greens a little and darken them a bit as well, to render the grass a little less vivid.

IMO,

Blair's version needs a bit of tweaking. A bit more saturation punch and some sharpening correction. Also try to control your exposure and hot spots via histogram. If you are on tight schedule and have to quickly move from one object to another, I would recommend to under-expose just a TINY bit to be on the safe side rather than have HOT unrecoverable spots.

Ed's version has fairly good sharpness editing but colors IMO are way off or I should say over-saturated. There are some noticeable hot spots as well.

Ron's version has too much "magenta punch" and even more hot spots then original version.

Good exercise though. Maybe we could have a weekly sessions on how "decent" picture can be tweaked / edited to improve quality. Members can discuss RAW editing softwares and techniques.

Jay, that is a great idea. I second the motion.

Good idea Jay :)

I thought that I would have a go at the shot in PS.

Looks like we're all having a go here here's my attempt, I've used Hue Saturation, Clone, Gausian Blur, Unsharp Mask, Levels, Three Layers,

Got rid of some of the distrations in the background etc, then blurred it a little also desaturated the grass a bit , darkened the corners saurated the eye slightly added a little highlight...

Lee, that's excellent! I saw how you darkened the windows in Mike's corvette
and you certainly know how to make Photoshop sing! Very good point about the
distracting BG. Good job! :)
