Throwing up a couple more shots i have taken. nothing to special or detailed. its just a canon A70 with a couple of macro lenses on it. keep in mind cherry shrimp are maybe a bit over 1/2 inch at best.

I like the 2nd shot better, and if you can crop out the lower-left blurry plants, that would be even better.;)

I prefer the seond photo too Geoff. I think one problem there is results from the similarity between the shrimp as the subject and the large coloured substrate. I think the photo of the shrimp may be improved if for example the shrimp was sitting on a piece of slate or had a slate or wood backdrop. Certainly a substrate and background that was less busy would help.

That's what I was talking about. Less distracting from the blurry unwanted stuffs.

Geoff, I , too, like the 2nd one, for the simple reason: The first one is not in focus :)
Like all above I think the photo is too loose, same comment I left in the other thread applies, define the subject. If there is too much stuff in the photo, it's either a crop that is too loose, or a background that is too busy. I hate to be so critical, but I think this and the other thread (pencilfish) really show off some things to think of when taking photos. I like the 2nd crop better but it's a bit awkward and unnatural, long and short top to bottom. I think there is a very classy 3:2 ratio crop that works. Here it is. I recroppped and de-saturated the green channel to show off the shrimp a bit more.
