View Full Version : How do you do it??
How do you guys/girls get your high quality detailed shots to take up such little file space?? I only have a 5MP camera and some of the shots I want to post are well over 2MB. Hosting websites like photobucket won't take pics that big and automatically shrink them to an almost useless size. I've tried a couple different programs to resize the shots, but they always turn out looking like crap in the end. I know a lot of you have cameras well over 5MP. Any help would be great.
Resize them to 800 pixels on the long side at most and then resave that at medium settings to get it down to a more manageable size. Most of the pics come in at around the 100kb range for me.

If you tell us which programs you have available to you, we will pick the best for the task and give you some guidance.
It is most likely something to do with the resolution that your files are rather than the JPG compression level. Try resizing one to a 640x480 or so, after cropping, and save it with a little compression.
You can also do a search and read some of these sites (http://www.google.com/search?q=resizing+photos&btnG=Search)
I use photoshop and save for web @ 75%
Normally go with 640 or 800 for the longest size.
Thanks a lot everyone!! Much better results.
