Just took some with tissue folded over the flash. :-)

Really must press down the sides to keep the shiny bits off. :-P

Yes attention to detail helps. You need to cover the whole flash tube to make the diffusion really effective. It depends on the geometry of your camera, but you may find that rubber bands are useful.
It's also important to make sure that the front glass is clean inside and outside. Try shooting the fish in a variety of positions, you may find that reflections are minimised when its body is in a particular pose.

¡ Rubber rings ! Great trick. I hate the adhesive film bounded to the flash.
