I have a Nikon coolpix 2500 2 megapixel camera. I have tried using it in all the different 'scenes' it has, with/without flash, on all the different modes, but I can't seem to be able to get any decent pics of my fish. But it does take fairly nice pics of everything else.

My tank is 24" high and has crappy lighting (just one 24", 20 watt flurescent tube). That is definitely part of the problem. However i keep my inside and outside glass very clean and my water is always crystal clear. This is the best pic that I can take, any suggestions on how to improve?

You've pointed the solution of the prob. I can tell the low shutter speed from the pic. Adding more tank light is the best solution, or you can use external flash lights which put at some adequate spots.

How much more light would you suggest for the tank shown in the pic?

Also, I am getting a new 150 gal tank(48"x24"x30") - the tank is 30" high so assume that i will need fairly powerful lighting. I will probably be getting several 4' fluorescent tubes. How many lights and what wattage would you suggest for that tank?

thanks,

ben

My tank is 2.5ft high, and I put 120W fluorescent light on top of my tank. With this I can get F5.6 shutter 1/20~35 for my Canon 300D, and can get F2.8 shutter 1/16~1/32 for my Sony F707. Well, as in the case of paradise, he put 300W on his tank (tank height??), and sometimes he get F2.0 shutter 1/60 for his F717. These might give you some idea.
