hey all, i am brand new to this site and to photography as well. i found this site thru a link that a member of oscarfish.com posted in a thread there, i keep tryin to get pictures of my fish, a jack dempsey and an oscar, but no matter what i do i cant seem to get it right. i am currently using a kodak easyshare c340, (due to the fact that my nikon 5600 got jacked from me...:'( ) and i dont know the camera all that well as it is my moms and she has loaned it to me till i can get another one of my own. i have tried using the "sports" setting, as my fish never seem to sit still for longer than a second, and i get a little clearer pic that way, but i cant get the bright colors to show up and they always seem sooooo dark. ive tried with the flash on and with it off, flash on is a bit better, but not by much, ive heard that you should shoot glass at an angle so the flash doesnt reflect... ive tried but i cant find an angle that i dont get that bright reflection in some part of the picture.... oh if you guys can give me some pointers i would love it to pieces... i am really a novice in this department and would love to learn so some step by step guidance would be great...
thanks
kassie

I think that if you picked a couple of what you think are your best shots Kassie and posted them it would be a lot easier for anyone to help you.
Everyone had to start somewhere so don't worry about how good or bad you think they are.

Hi Kassie
Nice Jack Dempsey :) Here is some tips to hopefully get you some better shots. First up take the shots in a dark room which will save alot of reflections in the tank glass. A background on the tank would help improve the shots and try to keep pipes and heaters out of the photo.
Your first shot looks like it was taken without flash. You need to use it with your camera otherwise the noisey grainy picture you see, will result. You could try placing a bit of tissue paper over the flash as it will help diffuse it a little and make the shots looks less harsh. Shoot with yourself square to the tank glass with your camera angled slightly down (which saves getting any flash in the photo. You may be getting too close which is why the focus is soft.
Try this first and lets see the results.
Cheers
Rich :)
