Hi

Now I have posted some fish shots I don't feel so bad about posting some more bird shots. I have been taking a few pictures of Purple Sandpiper recently but couldn't work out where they get their name from as under cloudy skies they look anything but purple

However, when the sun shines and you squint at them there is a hint of purple on the wing feathers

The other bird I have had a go at this week is the Sanderling which are quite tricky because although not particularly shy they whizz around like a roadrunner strapped to a rocket.

As always, great Rich.

You know, I think I see a faint tint of purpleish tones to that sandpiper. It is faint, but I think it is there.

So, you think that one thread of fish pix will be enough to excuse you and to share more bird photos for a while...:-/ I think not. You are going to have to spend a little more time in the house with the camera and tanks before you start venturuing out to the marshes too soon.;)

Bobby, his lens is so long, he has to open the windows and shoot from the neighbor's yard to shoot his tanks :) :)

Nice job, Rich

Are purple sandpipers more purple in summer plumage? The first shot is lovely: perhaps dull light suits these birds. On the other hand sanderlings are my favourite waders, these photos are excellent - particularly the first which has the focus spot-on and a typical dynamic posture - they are never still. People always say that they move like clockwork toys, which is exactly right and I always think of them in little groups, pattering around in all directions - now that's a challenge for any photographer :)
