Another photo from my walk-about this evening. Nikon 18-55mm II, f/6.3, 1/160s, ISO 400, spot metering, exp compensation 0, focal length 35mm. I think this needed a bigger aperture to get the whole flower head in focus. What would have been a better size for that?
Other thoughts or critiques?

Dennis,
First, I'm no expert at taking flower pics. I take flower pics when I'm bored,
and there's nothing else to shoot! Having said that, I think this is a good
exposure, I would have gotten the whole flower ball of geranium blooms in
the frame and a tighter crop, since the BG is distracting. The centerpiece in
this pic is those blooms with the rain/water drops on them. The crop would
not include the kalanchoe(?) blooms on the left. I've shot the D50 and D70,
so I'm sure you're having fun with your new camera!:-D

Thanks Bill. I see what your saying about the crop as I like this better. Do you think the lack of depth (white flower in front out of focus) is distracting?

This is better, Dennis, though I would have cropped tighter still. The one
OOF flower is not distracting. Your eye goes immediately to the center of
the blooms, which is what you want.

Something like this, though I would have gotten more of the flower ball
originally, to cookie-cut a better crop:
