Buying a speedlite need help!

Hey so I have decided I need a speedlite for my camera but I need some questions answered first. I have a nikon d3000 and I wanted to know if I buy a sb-600 is that all I need to fire the flash remotely? Like with a overhead hood?, as described in the thread "how i use my speedlite". Do I need anything else to make this kind of set up work? Im still trying to figure this all out before I start buying things, any info would help, thanks!

the d3000,i believe,does not have the commander mode function for the build in flash. u will need to purchase a remote trigger and transmitter.
